Ever get one of those annoying calls and wish you never picked up in the first place? Now you don’t have to worry about answering unwanted calls thanks to a new initiative by the UAE Government.

Have you wondered why recently you’ve been able to see the caller ID of numbers that are not even saved in your contact list? A new service called ‘Kashif’ was activated by the Telecommunications and the Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) earlier this year. The aim is to reduce the number of anonymous calls residents receive. The word “Kashif” means revealer in Arabic, and reveal it does. By the end of this year, it will be applied to all private sector companies whose mobile and landline numbers are registered.

In October of 2021, the Dubai Economy said it had received 753 complaints against “annoying” promotional calls in just five months. Therefore, the “Kashif” initiative was implemented to help UAE residents get their peace and avoid most of these incessant calls.

TDRA still cautions that this service is to simply reveal the calling party – You should never reveal any personal information such as account numbers, OTPs, or passwords, as it is never safe – whether you know the identity of your caller or not.
