The UAE’s Emirates ID is an identity card issued by Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA), and is a legal requirement for all UAE citizens and residents.
The ICA is to be launching an electronic version of the ID which will be available via the UAEs Smart app which will be as valid as the physical documents.
The e-EID will be usable for services such as immigration e-gates, utility payments and more.
The electronic version can be used via “QR Code” scanning technology, to enable immediate reading of the card, as it is automatically generated when entering the customer’s document wallet in the smart application.
In addition to e-versions of the ID, the Emirati passports will also be getting an “upgrade” which will include a number of extra security features in order to combat identity fraud and to strengthen national and international confidence in travel documents.
