Protect your children, know their rights!
According to Khaleej Times, The Federal National Council (FNC) has approved the reservations of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the child rights bill. The FNC had approved the bill on December 22 and sent it for presidential approval.
What’s the amendment all about?
The amended bill will provide greater safeguards for children. It creates a federal system to protect children from mistreatment, abuse, stimulants, narcotic drugs, psychotropic, alcohol, environmental pollution, tobacco smoke and other risks. Further, the comprehensive law addresses wide-ranging issues, including criminal offences, traffic safety and even smoking.
The amended bill caters to protect children below 18 years old.
Better child rights law
With the amendment of article 20, the authorities concerned will:
- Protect children from risks of environmental pollution
- Play effective and constructive role in raising awareness about child health, breastfeeding and protection from diseases
- Protect children from hazards of smoking, narcotic substances and alcohol
- Support schools in prevention and treatment of contagious, serious and chronic ailments; and providing vaccines
- Chart out programs to train healthcare professionals about child and mother health, offering psychiatric care to guarantee mental, emotional, social and linguistic growth of the child.
