The Commercial Compliance & Consumer Department (CCCP) of the Department of Economic Development (DED) has recently announced a 50% reduction on commercial fines. This is in line with the declaration of 2019 as the Year of Tolerance and to represent DED’s efforts to enhance ease of carrying out business in Dubai.
Earlier, where a trader wished to have a reduction in fines and penalties, they had to apply for a settlement. However, this new facility for reduction of 50% of commercial fines, is an automatic facility. Where a trader incurs fine as a result of first violation in a calendar year, the trader shall receive a text message with an automatic reduction of 50% on the fine.
DED received more than 4,650 fine settlements requests in 2017 and 2018. Hence, to provide ease of business and more flexibility, this facility shall adjust fines automatically.
